Rangers Agree to Terms with 2011 Draft Pick Michael St. Croix
New York, NY (September 14, 2012) - New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has agreed to terms with forward Michael St. Croix.
St. Croix, 19, was selected by the Rangers in the fourth round, 106th overall, in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. He established career-highs in games played (72), goals (45), assists (60), points (105), and penalty minutes (49) last season, while capturing the Western Hockey League (WHL) Championship with the Edmonton Oil Kings. During the postseason, St. Croix led the team in scoring with 19 points in 20 games, including a goal and an assist in Game 7 of the Championship series against Portland.
The 6-0, 180-pounder led the Oil Kings in goals, assists, points and power play goals, and ranked second in plus/minus rating last season. He also ranked seventh in the WHL in goals, ninth in assists and eighth in points, and tied for fourth in the league in power play goals and sixth in plus/minus rating. St. Croix recorded 32 multi-point performances, including two five-point games and four, four-point efforts. He posted three hat tricks and registered a career-high, 12-game point streak from October 9 against Spokane to November 9 against Vancouver, tallying six goals and 14 assists over the span. St. Croix was named the WHL Player of the Month for December 2011, registering 10 goals and 16 assists for 26 points in 12 games during the month. The Winnipeg, Manitoba native has recorded 88 goals and 117 assists for 205 points, along with 123 penalty minutes in 180 career WHL games with Edmonton.
In 2010-11, St. Croix led the Oil Kings in assists (48), ranked second in points (75) and power play goals (nine), and third in goals (27) and plus/minus rating (plus-28).
