New York, NY (November 20, 2012) - MSG Networks' original programs will now premiere on Wednesday nights – "Original Wednesdays" – starting November 21 with the debut of Season 2 of "Beginnings," presented by Melrose Credit Union, a 30-minute show that takes a behind-the-scenes look at where and how some of the players and personalities at Madison Square Garden got started. The first two episodes of "Beginnings" will feature popular Knicks players Steve Novak and Iman Shumpert.
Every Wednesday night MSG will feature its award-winning original programs, including premiere episodes of new series and encore presentations of classic originals such as "MSG's Vault," "The Game 365," "The Garden Transformed" and "The Lineup."
On Wednesday, November 21 at 12:00 a.m. (Thursday morning), "Beginnings" follows Novak back to his hometown of Brown Deer, Wisconsin, a suburb of Milwaukee, to meet his family and friends and other members of the community that guided him as he grew up through high school. Novak also visits his alma mater, Marquette, where he averaged 46.1% from behind the arc over a four-year career and made a trip to the Final Four as a freshman.
Novak talks about his passion for basketball and how he used to force himself to make 300 jump shots every day after school. He also tells the story of how former Marquette teammate and current Miami Heat star Dwayne Wade used to tell him to just run to the corner if he forgot a play and he would find him for an open three.
The following week, November 28 at 11:30 p.m., MSG's cameras head to Oak Park, Illinois outside of Chicago where Shumpert grew up and paved a path to The World's Most Famous Arena. In the episode, Shumpert visits his parents' house with two of his three brothers and reminisces about the intense games they would play in the driveway and in the house, to the chagrin of his mom and dad.
Shumpert's mom, L'Tanya, talks about his dedication to basketball even at a young age. She recalls the time that she called the boys in for dinner and Iman, at the age of six, sulked on the stairs and cried, "I was going to the NBA, but you won't let me practice."
The November 21 episode of "Beginnings" will follow MSG's coverage of the Knicks-Mavericks game at 8:00 p.m. and the November 28 episode will be preceded by coverage of the Knicks-Bucks tilt at 7:30 p.m.
